Popeska: #OneTrackADay, July 2014

You see crazy things happen.  Sometimes you act on them and sometimes you watch them pass.  I wasn't at Bonnaroo this year to see Skrillex DJ B2B with Mija as the sun came up, I wasn't in one of the 4 cities Diplo played as part of his Trap Hawk Down concept, and I don't know if I'm ever going to get a chance to see Bassnectar and Pretty Lights play a BassLights concert.

What I do know is that I am going to watch Popeska crank out a new tune every day for the month of July in the year 2014 (or at least 9 in 9 days at this point in time).

Graduation Mix for Gus Bus

So. Its that time of the year when people graduate.  And I just graduated.  Me and loads of my friends won't be sitting on porches, drinking beers, and playing obnoxious music together for a long time.  But the one thing I can take from it is a list of songs that we thoroughly played out on that porch.  That, and new songs that we would have rocked, and can rock together in spirit.  My friend Gus, whose grad party I will be going to tomorrow, inspired me to make an hour long mix of some of these songs.  I know we will enjoy it thoroughly.  I hope you will too.  Enjoy!

So the first time I heard the song "Problem" by Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea, I told my buddy Vexxe he had to do something with it.  And he agreed.  This is the finalized product.  Completed in under a week, a club friendly bootleg (or flip, whatever you prefer).  Emphasis on the best part of the songs, whistles, and just generally bouncy bass.  You gotta give this a listen.  And always, its free, Enjoy!

Bird Peterson can Move That Dope

If you don't know by now, I like Bird Peterson. The interesting stuff cranked out never ceases to amaze me.  This time, he took a cut at Future's "Move That Dope."  Super crispy drums, funky dubstep-y synth, and a bassline for days.  It doesn't get much better than this when it comes to a remix that stays true to the vocals.  This instrumental flip is perfect for your next house party, rager, banger, what have you.

Get Vexxe'd. Champion Remix Competition for Dim Mak Recs

I met this kid about a month ago.  As much as he'd probably hate that I would label him as a budding young artist, he was producing some amazing quality stuff.  Just turned 18 and he has produced some damn impressive work thus far.  After helping him along with a few marketing ideas and a rebranding effort, he decided to go with Vexxe.

Now, as Vexxe, his first move is entering into a remix competition for Clockwork's "Champion" in hopes to get a release on DIM MAK records.  Check his submission out here:

Shooter McNappin. He's nappin' but don't sleep on him.

So there's this guy I've been following for awhile now.  He produces some of the craziest tracks, including remixes and bootlegs.  His latest is a combo of PTAF's Boss Ass Bitch, Nicki Minaj's Hook, Brillz's Rvtchet Bitch (original mix) and Milo & Otis' remix of Rvtchet Bitch. Needless to say, each is dancefloor killer, but together they are a massive rave weapon.  Taking the best parts of Boss Ass Bitch and sampling them between the drops of Rvtchet Bitch & the Milo & Otis flip, Shooter McNappin creates a new level banger.

Bro Safari & UFO! did it again! Animal Remixes EP!

Last year I did an article on Bro Safari and UFO!'s project "Animal." (Not to be confused with Martin Garrix's song).  Now they have asked some of the best underground producers to remix their tracks and they delivered.  Brillz, ETC!ETC!, Gent & Jawns, Jesse Slayter, MUST DIE!, Valentino Khan, and more!  This compilations of remixes brings new light to "Animal," "Drama," and many others.

As always, Brillz and ETC!ETC! produced fantastic tracks with remixes of Animal and Tracers respectively.  From two artists who I instantly repost and then listen to on Soundcloud, I would expect nothing less.  Take my word for it.

Milo & Otis also produced a fantastic remix of Dealer, really bouncy, and just all around fun.

Party Favor pops in with a fantastic twerk mix of Drama.

Gent & Jawns, the OG Turn Up Squad, came back with a dominant dance floor killer on their remix of Burn The Block.

Brillz jumps in and does his thing on Animal.

Valentino Khan did some dirty work on Bird Brain, felt like a nice mix of electro and moombah.

Honestly hadn't heard of Jay Fay before, but the drop on Sputnik blew me away.  Some heavy stuff here, sounds kinda like Destroid.

Then MUST DIE! reminded me that dubstep wasn't dead on his remix of Chimbre.

ETC!ETC! did his thing on Tracers and I "seriously, couldn't even."

And then Evol Intent was all like "Let's throw some D'n'B in there" and I was like "HYFR" and then it was amazing.  Another fantastic remix of The Dealer.

Jesse Slayter comes in with some future sound on his remix of "Zombies"

The last two of these remixes are my favorites though.

Deco's take on No Time To Sleep is equal parts eerie and chill.  Some extra low Wubs and echoing vocals bring this track to epic vibe levels.

Big Wild got a follow after I heard this remix of Zombies.  The elegant build-up was what caught my attention.  Just as the original mix had a slow build up, this one too took the route of art.  But, the drop though.  "Noooo, he wasn't readyyyyy!" The crowd yelled.  And they were right.  I wasn't ready.  So funky, so fresh.  This one gets the gold medal.

Victor Niglio does it again. TWERK VIP DOE

Victor Niglio is one of the producers who literally came out of nowhere in 2013.  Gaining fame off of a his work with Carnage on the Cannonball (Festival Trap Remix) and two massive releases towards the end of the year (Jiggy and Booty Monsta with Borgore) Victor Niglio blew up.

Then, everywhere we started hearing this amazing remix of Martin Garrix's "Animals," arguably THE tune of 2013.  Sampling Diplo's "Express Yourself," Lil Jon's "What," and some of the most twerky basslines out there, this is bound to be the underground anthem of 2014.  Words can't do justice.  Check it, and Enjoy!

Holy XPLTVS & SWRWRDS.  Ryan Hemsworth goes in and challenges you to vibe harder than you've ever vibe'd.  He wants you to chill harder than the upcoming winter storm.  This song is literally the Antarctica of chill.

Ok. I might be exaggerating a little bit. But only a eensy-teensy bit.  

Lorde's vocals, Hemworth's magic, smooth jams. No matter what I write I can't do this song justice.  I've just listened to it three times in a row on repeat and its still perfect. Anyway, Enjoy!

It's Cold. Alex Young's got a Sweater Weather remix to keep you warm.

Up and coming producer Alex Young has had some bangers in the last year or so.  He's been making waves in the underground and is set up for a big year in 2014.  That being said, it's cold and nothing makes me feel warmer than The Neighbourhood's "Sweater Weather."
